BetterBox is dedicated to raising funds to combat the harm imposed on the Gulf of Mexico.

Help protect and defend the Gulf of Mexico to prevent the dead zones caused by fertilizers.
I wanted to create a product that would promote information about the current situation that is happening in the Gulf of Mexico. The product for this project is a regular water and sparkling water container in a biodegradable cardboard box with a cap. I want half of the proceeds that are spent on the product to go into helping protect and defend the Gulf of Mexico and prevent the dead zones caused by fertilizers. The product will be in both English and Spanish to reach the target audience.

Advertising
Advising for this project uses the same illustrations that are on the product to make a clear connection that they are related. The posts could be used for any manner of social media or placed on a billboard. The key location for where this advertising would be utilized would be in the Southern United States and South America. The Southern states and South America are the areas that notice the pressing issue so they would be the ones more persuaded to fund this product. The posts are fairly simplistic so they can be utilized in a multitude of ways and on different forms of media. The posts are in English and Spanish to reach the intended target audience.

Product Design Decisions
The reason why the packaging for this project was in the shape of a box was to have a packaging that is environmentally friendly, rather than rounded plastic water bottles that don’t degrade. When people perceive a cardboard box with water it’s instantly thought of as being environmentally conscious and that is what I advertise in the packaging. The text that is on the packaging is: “Proceeds go to GulfCorps to help prevent dead zones in the Gulf of Mexico. Choosing to drink water out of a box rather than a plastic bottle means less plastic that is emptied into our oceans. Better Box strives to create a sustainable future of biodegradable packaging that the Earth can break down.” The black text is English, and the orange text is Spanish. The packaging itself shows the fronts and the backs of four different packaging designs.
